COMMON FILE FORMATS USED BY PHOTO EDITORS

To make your life easier we have put together a short list of the popular files types we need to get your job done:

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group)

One of the most common file types, so you have probably seen them often as it is the common image format for use on the web and in Word documents.

JPEG files are common because of their versatility, which is great for all kinds of use, from word document, web, through to printing. It is important to pay attention to the resolution and file size with JPEGs as we need the highest resolution to get you the best-looking edits.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics)

PNG files can be used for any time of work, print, website, and word. The reason they used for websites is that you can save your image with more colors on a transparent background, making the image sharper on the web.

Unlike other file types, they can have any level of transparency. They tend to be larger files, do to their lossless format.

GIF (Graphics Interchange Format)

You’ve probably seen GIF’s before, particularly on Facebook and in banner ads. It is a popular image format on the web because of the ability to animated and is suitable for graphics, diagrams, cartoons, and logos with limited color range. GIF files can be made transparent as well, but can't be compressed.

PDF (Portable Document Format)

This file type was created by Adobe to make it easy for anyone to capture images and text from any application, on any type of computer can share it.

If your editor saves a design in PDF format, you can view it without any design editing software, and they can use the file to make further edits. PDF is the universal tool for sharing documents.
